We live with an abundance of food, yet are suffering from malnutrition.   We are a nation of food junkies and no wonder when our dinner plates are larger than ever before, we’re faced with sugar fixes in almost every outlet we visit and we don’t know how to let go of our cravings and eat what’s healthy.    

Why do we find it so hard to eat what’s good and right for us?  We suffer in silence, craving and gorging sugar treats like an addict searches for a heroin hit.  It’s no surprise we have many illnesses directly relating to the supply of nutrition we are NOT giving to our bodies.

Our bodies were only ever designed to accept vital and healthy nutrition.


Imagine a hot steamy donut.  The smell and taste are luring our senses.  We’re trying hard to resist and not indulge.  Then a moment of weakness as we pounce upon the donut, ultimately leading to feelings of guilt, shame, regret as we tell ourselves, we really do know better.

Your conscious mind is all about your wants, while your subconscious mind is about your protection, your beliefs, and your safety. If your conscious mind wants one thing but your subconscious mind wants another, then you are heading for disappointment. This includes dieting and losing weight. If we do happen to lose weight, we’ll retain an overwhelming subconscious urge to gain it back. 

So what to do when your conscious and subconscious mind are pulling in different directions?   

It helps to become present to what we are choosing.  Slowing down to deliberately channel our focus intently on what we would prefer to experience, we not only switch out of auto pilot, we get to taste the goodness of real food!
 
Only by repeating that conscious decision will the choice eventually slip into our subconscious programming. 
 
On that note, we can also adopt new habits of eating slowly and mindfully, to easily gauge when we are feeling uncomfortable and our tummies are full.
